Get ready to walk. May 17th here I come!
| Our second event, held April 27-28, 2002, was a huge success and helped us build the momentum we needed to get going on this year's event. We had a cold 24 hours, but thanks to Starbuck's La Caņada, the food from dozens of restaurants and the great spirit in everyone, we stayed warm. We had almost 20 teams and over 300 participants and we are setting our goals even higher for 2003. Over $30,000 was raised to help the American Cancer Society fight cancer and help increase awareness. We spent only 3% of the money raised on Relay expenses which was a record. The rest of the items we needed were donated by our very generous sponsors. The opening ceremony was beautiful and the survivor's lap was touching and inspirational. The luminaria ceremony was about the most emotional event most people had ever seen with a bagpiper coming out of the dark, a wonderful rendition of Amazing Grace and a candle lighting. The names of loved ones who have survived and those that have not were read aloud, as everyone walked the track together. Amazing time. Neil Ryan spent the whole 24 hours on the track showing his dedication to the cause. We had walkers from 6 months to 85+ walking, running and just having a memorable time. We sure hope you can join us at our next event. 2004's Foothills Relay For Life is around the corner and we need your support and attendance. Here are the top 5 teams and the top 5 individual fundraisers! These groups and individuals went beyond the call of duty and we appreciate their efforts.
